PWAS Membership Information


Goals of the Prince William Art Society

PWAS was formed in 1971 with the purpose of promoting the appreciation of visual art and fine crafts; gaining recognition and publicity for the work of local artists; and providing a variety of educational art programs and fine art exhibits to the Prince William community.

Member Benefits

A monthly newsletter describing current activity by PWAS, including upcoming meetings, shows and activities. Currently the newsletter is mailed out via snail-mail. This will change shortly to E-Mail for members with an E-Mail address. Back Issues of the newsletter will be available on the PWAS website.

Eligibility for members only exhibits, shows, and activities. This includes participation in regional shows at which PWAS buys a space. Members are required to pay a prorated portion of the cost, and a percentage of sales to PWAS for shows they participate. This also includes PWAS sponsored group trips to art shows are various museums and galleries.

Opporuntity to be involve in Community Outreach Programs that offer you exposure as an artist. This includes shows at local venues such as High Schools, Libraries, etc.

Venues for selling your art that are sponsored by this organization that are affordable.

Monthly meetings that offer members the opportunity to meet other artists, become involved in the operations of this organization, enjoy refreshments. Special interest programs are set up frequently to highlight an art technique or skill. These may be taught by a PWAS member or by an invited outsider.

Workshops are held as offen as available, frequently on a weekend. Some are only a few hours, others may span two days. These workshops cover skills and techniques that are to lengthty to do at the monthly meetings. A recent workshop covered an introduction to watercolors. Another one is to cover matting and framing techniques. Cost for these workshops are prorated amomhthe attendees. PWAS non-members of PWAS are frequently allowed to attend these workshops for a slightly higher fee.


Who Can Join

Membership is open to all individuals, 18 years of age or older, that are  interested in supporting the goals of the Society. To help meet those goals, it is essential that everyone volunteer in some way to assist elected board members to accomplish the goals set out in the by-laws. Members are expected to contribute at least five hours per year to a PWAS activity.

Dues

Dues are valid for one calendar year. New members who join in the middle of the year pay the annual dues rate. There is no prorating of dues. The current dues are shown below

Adult Single ( 18 - 59 ): $25.00
Family: $30.00
Senior (60 or older): $15.00
Sponsor: $25.00-$99.00
Patron: $100.00 and up
