I was never artistically inclined. One day my husband and I were passing a Dallas hardware store advertising Saturday morning beginner art classes. I enrolled on the spot. To my amazement I was the only adult in the class! For the next year I learned the basics of painting in oils, watercolors, and acrylics. My first undertaking was a 20x24 oil of the US Constitution and an 18x24 of the arboretum at the University of North Carolina. Smaller endeavors ensued in watercolors and acrylics. Following a move to Virginia I became interested in Folk Art and crafts. Craft Shows were a great opportunity to meet other crafters, painters, etc. as well as to display and sell my crafts and paintings.
In 2005 I joined Prince William Art Society and focused on landscapes, barns, covered bridges, and seascapes. Since I've had no professional experience I consider myself a 'journeyman' intent on acquiring additional artistic abilities and skills. I am pleased to state that the Prince William Art Society has been very influential in this journey.
Dorothy Headley, a member of Prince William Art Society has graciously given her permission to use this piece of art to help raise funds for the purpose of awarding a scholarship to an art student in the Prince William County School System, as part of our Community Outreach Program.
