My interest in art started when I was very young...doodling and trying to copy photos from magazines. In high school I took as many art classes as possible and after college I began taking watercolor classes with Roberta Rodgers, an artist in Flagstaff, Arizona. She provided me with a lot of encouragement but when my son was born, I put the paints & brushes away & used my creative talents as a scout leader and school volunteer for the next 18 years.
It has only been in the last few years that I have been painting again and taking classes at the Manassas Center for the Arts with Michele Frantz, and Lorton Workhouse with Marni Maree and Sherri Smith as well as many workshops. I'm happy to report that most of my current work has been done in the last year, since moving to our retirement home at Lake of the Woods!
I've been tempted to dabble in other media but watercolor is my first love. I love its transparency and crispness and the challenge of "saving the whites" by not applying any paint to those areas.
